FEATURE ARTICLES

THE 21ST EDITION IS AVAILABLE

The final printed edition of the Fresno County Resources Directory is now available for purchase. Staff has mailed out copies of the new directory to everyone who has already subscribed.

This directory again reflects a major change in the social service delivery system. Around 125 programs are no longer being offered in Fresno County but 130 "new" programs were added. In order to stay on top of all these changes it is time to toss your old directory into the trash and replace it with this more accurate new directory.

If you would like a copy of this LAST printed directory that will be published by the I&R Network, take a moment now to submit your subscription form. A very limited number of copies of this last edition are still available, so if you want to ensure you get a copy of this directory be sure to sign up now. A subscription form is on the inside back cover of this newsletter.

Starting next year there will only be the online directory of services. Need training on how to use the online directory for your staff? Call Joe, Lori or Jason at (559) 488-3857 to arrange training sessions. The Network will also be offering training at the Central Library computer lab; watch the Network News for announcements in the coming weeks.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES

BOOKS AT THE LIBRARY

Three Ring Circus: How Real Couples Balance Marriage, Work and Family (Emeryville, CA : Seal Press, 2004) edited by Dawn Comer Jefferson & Rosanne Welch, price $14.95.

DESCRIPTION: Today's parents are supposed to have the freedom to have it all: high powered careers, passionate partnerships and brilliant, well mannered children. That's the spin, at least, from those who have never tried to balance the needs of bosses, spouses and those demanding little people. This book replaces the spin by offering a variety of real situation and honest stories by careered couples in the trenches.

CALL NUMBER: 306.872/THR

LOCATION: Central.

Living Cheaply With Style: Live Better and Spend Less (Berkeley, CA : Ronin Press, 2000) by Ernest Callenbach, price $13.95.

DESCRIPTION: The author aims to show readers how to lead a self-determined, original lifestyle-and to do so frugally. His philosophy is based on three points-environment, health and money-and he argues that doing something to benefit one of these points will inevitably benefit the other two.

CALL NUMBER: 332.024/CAL

LOCATION: Central.

Pitch Like a Girl: How a Woman Can Be Herself and Still Succeed (New York : Rodale Press, 2005) by Ronna Lichtenberg, price $23.95.

DESCRIPTION: Shelves full of business books have told women that the only way to win at work is to be like a guy. The truth is that science shows that the brains of men and women work differently. Here are proven techniques to maximize the intrinsic and instinctive strengths of women for the workplace.
