19TH ANNUAL NIGHT OF JAZZ

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, July 30; 5:30 p.m. - 10 p.m.; Arte Americas, 1630 Van Ness Avenue, Fresno.

DESCRIPTION: Guests at this event will be treated to a night of music by Bobby & Company, dancing, a silent auction, a buffet dinner, and a no-host bar. Proceeds from this event will help Centro la Familia provide services to their clients.

COST: $30 in advance; $35 at door.

FIRST ANNUAL CENTRAL VALLEY COMMERCIAL TRUCK SHOW

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, July 31; 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Clovis Rodeo Grounds, 748 Rodeo Drive, Clovis.

DESCRIPTION: Commercial trucks will be on display along with towing trucks. Attendees of this truck show can look forward to entertainment by three different bands, a kid area with bounce houses and face painting, vendor booths, and a BBQ lunch of tri-tip, chicken or hotdogs. Proceeds will benefit the Clovis Lions Club and Fresno Club 435.

THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, July 31; 8:30 p.m. - 11 p.m.; 2nd Space Theater, 928 E. Olive Avenue, Fresno.

DESCRIPTION: This musical comedy features six young people, who are overseen by adults who barely managed to escape childhood themselves, that learn that winning isn't everything and that losing doesn't necessarily make you a loser. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. There will be a silent auction and dessert at intermission. Proceeds will benefit the Fresno Relay for Life.

FRESNO BULLY RESCUE 2 YEAR BIRTHDAY BASH

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, July 31; 8 p.m. - August 1, 2 a.m.; Club Habanos, 6759 N. Palm Avenue, Fresno.

DESCRIPTION: Enjoy music, drinks, a pit bull themed silent art auction, and special late night burlesque performances. Admission fee includes automatic entry into a raffle. Proceeds raised at this event will benefit the programs of Fresno Bully Rescue.

ACLU FUND-RAISING EVENT

DESCRIPTION: The Fresno Area Chapter of the ACLU of Northern California will hold its first ever fund-raising event. Guests will enjoy an evening of live music, light refreshments, pleasant conversation, and perhaps even passionate discourse about civil liberties.

22ND ANNUAL CENTRAL CALIFORNIA BUSINESS EXPO

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, August 6; 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.; Radisson Hotel & Conference Center, 2233 Ventura Street, Fresno.

DESCRIPTION: This event offers an opportunity to network with participants representing valley business, finance, international business and government agencies. The theme for the day is A Social Media Revolution. Learn how to use social media to help promote your business. Evy Ramos, Channel 47 This Morning co-anchor, will be the mistress of ceremonies. Lieutenant Governor Abel Maldonado will be the keynote speaker. Jose Flores, Clovis Mayor Pro Tempore, is being honored as legislator of the year. Colleen Curtis, CEO United Health Centers of the San Joaquin Valley, will be honored as the Central California Champion Award Winner. It is being presented by the Central California Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

DESCRIPTION: This summer concert series will host a variety of Latino performers and will provide fun for all ages. This week Arte Americas will host La Sonora Explosion Dinamitera. As one of the first cumbia groups to reach international success, this Colombian group is credited with helping to popularize the genre throughout Latin America. Proceeds from this event will benefit the programs of Arte Americas.

FIG FEST

DESCRIPTION: Savor gourmet food samples from Central San Joaquin Valley culinary leaders. There will be fresh and dried figs, delicious recipes and more at the 7th annual Fig Fest. Fig fun activities include a Petanque demonstration, face painting and live entertainment. BARK FOR LIFE

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, August 7; 8 a.m. - 11 a.m.; Basin AH1 Dog Park, 4257 W. Alamos Avenue, Fresno.

DESCRIPTION: Bark for Life proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. The day will feature a dog walk, games, prizes, and an award for the dog wearing the most purple to support cancer awareness. Raffle tickets for cool doggie prizes will be given to the owner of each registered dog. Please remember that dogs must be on a leash and you must be prepared to clean up after them.

SCHOOL SUPPLY DONATIONS NEEDED

WHEN/WHERE: Through Saturday, August 7; 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.; West Fresno Health Care Coalition, 302 Fresno Street, Fresno.

DESCRIPTION: Every year many children start school a week or two late because they don't have proper immunizations, physical examinations or lack school supplies and clothing. West Fresno Health Care Coalition is sponsoring a Back to School Health Fair to try and help community children overcome these obstacles. Donations of school supplies to give away are appreciated. You may drop your donations off or arrange for pick up.

12TH ANNUAL JAMAICA MY WEEKEND

THAT'S AMORE

DESCRIPTION: Lady and the Tramp is the inspiration for this Italian style dinner and auction. The event will feature a no-host bar, music, a 50/50 raffle, and caricature artists. There will be a pet photo contest followed by a buffet dinner. During the evening there will also be a live, a silent and a dessert auctions. Janet Stoll-Lee will be the mistress of ceremonies. Proceeds will benefit the Clovis Pet Adoption Center building fund.

REACHING THE AMERICAN DREAM AWARDS

DESCRIPTION: Fresno Center for New Americans will be hosting their first annual awards dinner. They will be honoring three new Americans that have reached the American Dream through their hard work and support of family and community organizations such as FCNA. The new Americans being honored at the awards dinner are Fresno City Councilman Blong Xiong, local dentist Kao Vang, and Eco-Systems green business owner Kong Vang. Proceeds from this event will benefit Fresno Center for New Americans.

MUDD VOLLEYBALL

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, August 21; 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.; dirt field at Shaw Avenue and Highway 99.

DESCRIPTION: Teams play five round robin games and a single elimination tournament in the mud. Trophies are presented to the top three teams. All players receive a t-shirt. Filthy Teams receive the Club Mudd VIP treatment, which includes lunch, massages, team pictures, a goodie bag, air conditioned bathrooms, cabana boys and girls, and one beer or soda. Club Mudd perks and registration form is found here. All team captains must attend a mandatory meeting on August 10. All proceeds from this event will benefit the March of Dimes.

SUMMER SIZZLE

DESCRIPTION: Summer Sizzle is a great opportunity for the Wildcat Family to get together for an evening of great food, music, dancing, and fun. THE POETS OF FRESNO: SUMMER READING SERIES 2010

DESCRIPTION: This summer reading series will consist of three events and will feature established and up and coming Fresno poets. The readers for the last of the three events in The Poets of Fresno: Summer Reading Series, 2010 will be: B. H. Boston, Megan Bohigian, Michelle Brittan, Mike Clifton, Ana Garza, David Good, Connie Hales, Tim Hernandez, and Mike McMahon. Funds raised at this event will go to Tebot Press for the publication of the Ash Tree Poetry Series of Fresno Poets.

HONORING OUR HISTORY: WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY DINNER AND AWARDS EVENT

DESCRIPTION: Celebrate the 90th anniversary of the 19th amendment and recognize a group of local citizens who have worked hard to preserve our common heritage: Mabelle Selland, local historian author; Cathy Rehart, local historian and author; Midge and Charles Barrett, preservation of Old Armenian Town; Kathy Omachi, preservation of China Town; Elizabeth Laval, photographic collector; and, Howard Watkins, photographic collector. The evening will include a silent auction featuring chocolate desserts. This event is hosted by the National Women's Political Caucus.

UNCORKED: A BENEFIT FOR THE MARJAREE MASON CENTER

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, August 27; 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.; Sierra Vista Mall, 1050 Shaw Avenue, Community Park, Clovis.

DESCRIPTION: Local wineries will offer samplings and food merchants from Sierra Vista Mall will have great food for all to try. A silent auction will take place during this evening and music is provided by Wild Hare. Each ticket will include a collectable wine glass. This event is co-sponsored by 107.1 K-HITS and the Sierra Vista Mall.

GREEK FEST MERCHANT'S LUNCHEON

WHEN/WHERE: Friday, August 27; 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.; St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 2219 N. Orchard Avenue, Fresno.

DESCRIPTION: Enjoy a delectable Greek lunch with optional pre-packaged homemade pastries. For the first time, the Friday Merchant's Luncheon has changed to meet the needs of a busy metropolitan area and a complete lunchtime meal (pastichio, Greek salad, vegetables, bread & butter) is offered for you to take back to your office. Drive through service and take out service are available. Proceeds benefit St. George Greek Orthodox Church.

MUSICK MOUNTAIN MUSIC FESTIVAL

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, August 28; 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.; State Highway 168 & Dinkey Creek Road, Community Ball Park, Shaver Lake.

DESCRIPTION: Bruce Conte will be the headliner for this annual music festival. Other bands that will be featured at the festival are Krossover and the Shuffle-Aires. Food and beverage vendors will offer great tasting food, cold beer and soft drinks. A craft faire featuring the work of local artisans and other vendors will also be featured at the festival. Proceeds benefit the Rotary Club of Auberry Intermountain Foundation.

DESCRIPTION: A benefit dinner, pasta Iron Chef Competition between Institute of Technology students, and silent auction will all be featured at this event. Those in attendance will also take home a custom made ceramic bowl designed for this event by volunteers. Proceeds will benefit the Community Food Bank.

WIGGLE WAGGLE WALK AND FURRY 5K RUN

WHEN/WHERE: Saturday, September 11; 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.; California State University Fresno, 5241 N. Maple Avenue, Fresno.

DESCRIPTION: The wiggle waggle walk and furry 5K run is a fund-raiser benefiting the Valley Animal Center, a no-kill shelter and spay, neuter and vaccination clinic for dogs and cats. Walkers can register at the event starting at 7 a.m. The furry 5K run begins at 7:30 a.m., and the 2-mile walk begins at 8:30 a.m. The wiggle waggle walk will also feature a vendor faire, kid's carnival, dynamic doggie demonstrations, food, and more for you and your dog to enjoy together.

COST: $25 adults; $20 members, seniors (55+) or part of a team of 5 or more; $15 children (14 and under).

REEDLEY TASTE OF THE TOWN

DESCRIPTION: Guests will be treated to a relaxing evening of delicious food, fantastic wines and desserts from Reedley's fine restaurants at this event. You can also enjoy the sounds of live jazz well into the evening. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Reedley Downtown Association.

DESCRIPTION: Guests at this event will enjoy a sit down dinner catered by Jim Pardini, music by Patrick Contreras and dancing under the stars to the Joe Lenigan Band. The evening will honor Josephine Giampaoli, Reverend Monsignor Craig Harrison, James Pardini, and Sister Beverly Ann Nelson (posthumous) for their time, talents and commitment. Proceeds will benefit the programs of the Catholic Charities Diocese of Fresno.

DESCRIPTION: Tree Fresno is holding its annual fund-raiser to present the 5th Annual CityScape Awards. Awards that will given include awards for civic landscape, beautification and sustainability. Celebrate with the award winners and support the efforts of Tree Fresno.

RIDE FOR THE RED

DESCRIPTION: Please support military families in the Central Valley by participating in the 3rd Annual American Red Cross Ride for the Red. There will be a post ride barbecue, entertainment and prizes.

HEALING HEARTS RELIEF GOLF TOURNAMENT

STEP UP FOR DOWN SYNDROME

DESCRIPTION: This is Fresno Area Down Syndrome Society's largest fund-raising and public awareness event. It will begin with a 1-mile non-competitive walk and following the walk there will be entertainment and food for purchase. Proceeds benefit FADSS.

CASA'S 12TH ANNUAL CRAB FEED

DESCRIPTION: Enjoy an evening at the annual crab feed fund-raiser for the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Fresno and Madera Counties (CASA). There will be entertainment, a live auction and a silent auction during the evening. All funds raised through this event go directly to help CASA recruit, train and support the volunteers who advocate on behalf of our abused and neglected children and give them a voice in court.
