DESCRIPTION: Relay for Life is a fun overnight event where participants can help fight cancer by raising money and awareness to support the American Cancer Society's mission. You can participate as an individual or as a member of a team. Celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember the loved ones lost to cancer and fight back against the disease that has taken too many lives already. WHEN/WHERE: Sunday, May 1; 1:30.m. - 4 p.m.; Frank's Place at the Warnor's Center for Performing Arts, 1432 Fulton Street, Fresno. DESCRIPTION: The Central California District Council of the Japanese American Citizens League (CCDC-JACL) is pleased to announce the West Coast Premiere of the one-act opera, The Sisters of Manzanar. The benefit performance will also feature a keynote discussion with actor George Takei and participation from the opera's composer, Paul Stuart, followed by a VIP Reception with the artists and celebrities. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Fresno Assembly Center Memorial to honor the sacrifices of the Central Valley Japanese Americans who were interned at the Fresno County Fairgrounds during World War II. COST: $25 general admission (on or before April 10); $40 preferred seating and VIP reception (on or before April 10); $30 general admission (after April 10); $45 preferred seating and VIP reception (after April 10). DESCRIPTION: Join Lorenzo Neal and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Central Valley for a day of golf and more. In addition to golf with a shotgun start there will be contests for closest to the pin and longest drive, a raffle drawing, awards presentation, and reception. COST: $125 per player.
